📚 We Have A Library in Town?

Find something for all ages

By Karen Reed, Publisher & Editor, Franklin Macaroni Kid July 27, 2018

What is a book?

Technology is a great source of information, but do you recall visiting the library in your school when you was a kid. We had a specific day each week for our class. The librarian would take time to teach us about the different features of the library, read a book to us, and even help us check out a book to take home and enjoy. If no activity was planned, our class would peruse through the shelves to see which book caught our attention. We had a set amount of time to be in there so we were able to look around, huddle up in our small groups at a whisper, or even recline on one of the oddest shaped floor cushions I had ever seen. A little like the picture listed below, but the back was rounded.

Students in school today are also given library time. My son, Sassy, was in Kindergarten last year. His class was scheduled to alternate between library one week and computer lab the next week. A lot has changed from when I was growing up. Although children don't visit the library as often, the teacher focuses on reading in the classroom and at home. Sassy's favorite time was when we would snuggle up to read a good book before bedtime.

I have visited each library website and know they have a packed calendar. Many of the activities during the week are at times when our children are at school, but preschool as well as home-schooled children can take advantage of the opportunities.

Listed below is a link for each of the local libraries. I invite you to click on the link and check out the library's web page. Each web page has an event calendar and information broken down by age group. I noticed there are also activities for adults. The Great American Read is in progress right now. Activity dates will also be included on my event calendar and printed in the weekly newsletter for subscribers via e-mail.

Thank you for reading!
